As the inaugural academic leader at USU Eastern, he has overseen the transition of the former College of Eastern Utah, with campuses in Price and Blanding, into a comprehensive regional college within Utah State University’s regional campus system. Major initiatives during his tenure include the “Four in Four Campaign” (to grow the College’s enrollment to four thousand students in four enrollment cycles) and the “Building Vitality Campaign” to raise funds and support for the construction of a new multi-discipline instructional building on the Price Campus, approved during the 2014 legislative session.
Peterson received a PhD in Educational Leadership from UNLV in 2005, and an MA in creative writing in 1982 from BYU, and a BA in English in 1980 from BYU. For many years, Peterson taught composition and literature, including three years at Utah State University’s Uintah Basin campus, and nine years at Dixie.
