Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Programs | Associate Vice Chancellor for Liberal Arts and Sciences

Melanie Nelson will serve as Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Programs of Utah State University Eastern Price campus. As the Interim Vice Chancellor, Melanie assists the Interim Chancellor Straquadine to advance the academic programs at USU Eastern. She is responsible for program design, implementation, and evaluation with a vision for attracting and retaining the best students for the right programs. She mentors new and maturing faculty to maximize their teaching, research, and service roles. Melanie has worked at USU Eastern in administration as Associate Vice Chancellor of Arts and Science since 2010.

Melanie's academic background is in mathematics. She earned a bachelor's degree at Bemidji State University and a master's degree at Utah State University. Melanie began her teaching career at Carbon High School in 1982. She took a teaching position at College of Eastern Utah in 1989, and has continued teaching mathematics at USU Eastern.

Melanie enjoys hiking and mountain biking in Castle Country and surrounding areas. She has a daughter, son, and granddaughter.
