Sigma Tau Delta | Literary Club
Sigma Tau Delta has traditionally been an honor society for English Majors who have achieved and maintained high academic standards. However, at Eastern, we want all students who are interested in writing, language, and literature to find a community where they can share and promote that interest. Therefore, Sigma Tau Delta also functions as a campus club that is inclusive of any member who pledges their time and involvement to promoting literary arts on campus.
Sigma Tau Delta has three primary purposes:
- To promote literary arts on campus
- To provide a community in which to share and discuss its members love of writing and literature.
- To provide professionalization and scholarship opportunities to students interested in English studies.
Benefits of Membership:
Besides getting to know really awesome people and connecting with others on campus who share your love of literature and writing, STD provides you with many professional opportunities. Members are eligible to apply for scholarships valued up to $5,000 each. They can apply for internships with a major publisher, online booksellers or various Washington DC-based literacy groups. There are publication opportunities for creative or critical works in STD journals. You can attend the International Sigma Tau Delta Conference each spring to meet and hear well-known and popular writers, as well as present your own work. Sigma Tau Delta also provides leadership opportunities to serve as chapter officers, which is a good boost to your resume or graduate school application. Finally, STD provides you with opportunities to share your love of literature through organizing poetry slams, movie nights, open mic nights, bad love poetry recitations, trivia games, and other fun activities for the campus community.
Lifetime membership in Sigma Tau Delta requires a $40 fee. The chapter will pay this fee for any individual who wishes to be an active member, provided they actively participate in fundraising and Sigma Tau Delta Events.
