Tips for Incoming Students

  • Set realistic goals and stick to them
  • Have fun!
  • Take time to explore and find out what you love
  • Organization and planning are essential. Find out what works best for you (calendar, planner, organizer, phone reminders, etc.)
  • Get involved with activities. It will make your college experience more enjoyable
  • Don’t overload or under-schedule yourself
  • Get adequate rest. Avoid all-nighters and cramming before an exam
  • Set a consistent time to go to bed and get up in the morning
  • Attend Student Success Workshops on campus
  • Go to class and be prepared
  • Learn from your mistakes
  • Learn how to prioritize and balance your time
  • Study at least 1-2 hours a day
  • Study in a distraction free environment
  • Take a break during the weekends to get your mind off of school
  • Get to know your instructors, and allow them to get to know you
  • Don’t procrastinate! When you have an assignment due, get it done
  • Exercise regularly to reduce stress, sleep better and improve your health
  • Maintain a good budget. Live within your means and accumulate as little debt as possible
