Eight students graduated from the second Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) session at Utah State University Eastern recently. The ceremony was held in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center with Sheriff Jeff Wood keynoting the graduation ceremonies.
According to POST director Scott Henrie, “Jesse Jones, Nick Parker, John Powell, Brandon Rigby, Cameron Sartori, Braydon Summarell, Meranda Turner and Andy Wall passed all aspects of the rigorous exams and are eligible to work in the law enforcement field.” Four of these cadets are already employed with local law enforcement agencies.
The cadets all passed three blocks of training; the special function block, basic corrections block and law enforcement block. Some of the courses each cadet studied included accident investigation, crime scene protection and investigation, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, basic criminal and traffic law, field investigation drug officer, handguns, supervisory and leadership, standard field sobriety testing, radar certification, intoxilyzer certification and critical incident response.
“This was my most diverse group with great potential and will make a positive influence in the law enforcement community. Many are already working in the field and I expect the rest to accept employment offers very soon,” Henrie said.
“The next session will begin in August and we have great interest this year. We have already began the testing phase and will work with any qualifying candidates to get them ready for the academy session this fall,” he said.
